Easter Art Time

Easter Break started for us on Friday!

Our artwork celebrating the holiday.  My favorites are the Easter Lily flowers drawn by the 2nd/3rd graders & even though everyone else thinks they're beautiful....I had multiple kids extremely frustrated with their "flower drawings".  They word "ugly" was stinging my ears often during this lesson.

Sigh.

When I shared with a friend that my high school students were so displeased with the "prints" they made & the fact that they couldn't get past the idea that "prints" are not supposed to look like drawings, etc.  He said to me that they haven't developed yet a sensibility that it takes to see art in that way.  Makes sense.

Ahhhhh what a beautiful feeling when the art lesson is truly one that stretches the students and takes them out of their comfort zone and they are pleased with their results.  These are the days I feel like I've won the jackpot.   (This didn't happen w/ the lilies below, but I'm not giving up.  Can't wait to try again next year:)  Hope you enjoy them.

Super Cute Bunny Card!

This super cute bunny is a foldable card. My dear friend, Evie, sent a cardstock template for it - knowing I'd love it. (Want to know how she knew I'd love it? She's 83 years old and she's got the wisdom to prove it!) Below is its shape before being folded. I used regular printer paper because I was in a hurry to get this post up.....the clock is ticking and bunny time is expiring soon...., but if you have cardstock that would be best.
And, if you want, you can even write a fun message on the bunny flaps:)

I traced Evie's template and made it into a PDF, you can download it here. If you make your own, I'd LOVE to see it -- I can just imagine how you'd creatively make yours special with colors, glitter, whatever.

Your download will look like this:

And now I'm going to pass along the message Dear Evie sent to me in her cute bunny card...these same sentiments I send to you - Happy Easter!
May the miracles of spring, bring you peace & happiness...
And the season of Easter inspire you...
And the joy of the Lord dwell in your heart all year!

Do Bunnies Really Lay Eggs?

Spring has sprung in our neck of the woods! (And my allergies can prove it...)
Time for an art lesson with bird's nests and colorful eggs. And since we're making bird's nests, lets give 'em some texture.
Materials:
9x12 background construction paper
4x6" white construction paper (for the eggs)
crayons
scissors
white glue
pasta noodles, we used spaghetti because it's fun to break into pieces (When I told the kids the truth about the fact that these noodles had been sitting in a dirty cupboard in my garage for over a year, not one child put any in their mouths.)

Hey, who says an egg can't be in the shape of a football - (this little guy was so proud of his idea:)
Thanks to San Gabriel Elementary artists!!!!
